YLE

The Cambridge Young Learners tests have been designed especially for children and use topics they are familiar with. All of the exams cover the four language skills: Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening. Students move through the three levels: Starters, Movers (A1) and Flyers (A2). They are an excellent way for students to gain confidence, improve their English, keep motivated and see the progress they have made. Cambridge English Centre students are normally offered the Starters exam in Kids 4, Movers in Kids 5 and Flyers in Kids 6, before moving on to the KET/PET.

KET

The Key English Test is the first level of the Cambridge English general exams for teenagers and adults. This Pre-intermediate level qualification is proof of your ability to use English to communicate in simple situations. The exam tests all four English language skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking. Obtaining the KET should give you the confidence to go on to study for higher-level English exams such as PET and FCE.

PET

Preliminary qualification shows that you have mastered the basics of English and now have practical language skills for everyday use. Students who have demonstrated that they have a good grasp of the basic language at KET or Pre-Intermediate level move onto our PET (Preliminary English Test) course, which is equivalent to level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

FCE

Cambridge First (First Certificate in English) is the most important exam for the majority of our students and is becoming increasingly necessary for university and work. Our FCE preparation courses not only reinforce the grammar and vocabulary required at this upper intermediate level, but also focus on exam skills and practice. Furthermore, strong emphasis is placed on developing writing skills for the different styles and tasks required in the exam. FCE is equivalent to level B2 of the Common European Framework for Languages.

CAE

More and more of our students are joining our Cambridge Advanced preparation courses once they have passed the FCE in order to continue their studies and demonstrate their level of English at a higher level (C1). The Cambridge Advanced is the qualification most often required to work or study in an English-speaking country.

CPE

A Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE) qualification shows the world that you have mastered English to an exceptional level. It proves you can communicate with the fluency and sophistication of a highly competent English speaker. Preparing for and passing the exam means you have the level of English that’s needed to study or work in a very senior professional or academic environment, for example on a postgraduate or PhD programme.
